I just love your new website. It is so user friendly and I open up to you every morning on all of my computers.

If I were to suggest one thing, it would be that the breaking news bar become a deeper red. I missed it this morning thinking it was a part of the regular advertising.

I do like the newer design, however I think you have now unfortunately pushed much of your relevant news content below "the fold". I no longer have a quick glimpse at multiple news categories and headline news when I launch the page and must scroll down or click to really dig into the site fully. As well, I really wish you would finally lose the rollover advertisements above your frontpage header...these are quite annoying and only serve to frustrate your users who accidentally trigger them upon entering. Overall, I am pleased you have taken the time to perform usability testing to determine what your readers wish to know, but I am skeptical that you actually quizzed them about how to display it.

A bit too flashy for my taste - the older format was clean and easy to scan for news items of interest.

All the Extra background graphics make the page (even on a cable ISP) significantly longer to load. The 'too much bling making it difficult to find anything' factor was why I stopped reading the competition(CNN) news site about two years ago

The layout of your new site, while sharp, has two immediately obvious (to me) annoyances. 1) It's too wide - I either have to constantly use the horiz. scrollbar -or- maximize my browser window to see the whole page, and 2) it's too "spaced out" - I have to do a lot more vertical scrolling to scan the headlines. The previous layout allowed much quicker glancing and scanning.

Of course, you can file this under the "you can't please all of the people all of the time" category... In general, it's sharp looking redesign.

How come when I say to show 5 stories, it shows me 3. When I say show 10, it shows 7, and when I say show 15, It shows me 10?

Also, the My News section could use a smaller font or less spacing so I can see more without having to scroll down all the time.

Instead of stocks, sports scores, etc in the my news explore tab (by the way I find the explore tab to be kind of a useless kludge) I would like to see those elements where the 'multimedia' stuff is in the respective sections.

This would be nice for those of us who like to read our news and get most of the important stories and news at a glance (mostly for the additional depth that reading it SHOULD provide.)For those who like to 'see' their news you could have a multimedia home page.

First off, I like the new redesign. You guys definitely did a lot of great work incorporating excellent design elements and interactivity.

There are a few small side effects that I noticed that should be addressed.

When I go to an article, I can't move my mouse without hitting one of the flyouts next to the article. This puts a menu directly over where I'm reading for a few seconds. Perhaps you could increase the delay time for mouseovers so it won't open unless you've put the mouse pointer over the menu for a certain period of time...

I really think you should put the current conditions back on the Local news and weather section.

I would like to be able to move items on my "My News" tab...for me, weather is more important than stocks.

I wish I could make a "square" out of some of the sections (rather than a rectangle) on the front page (like "Business" and "Health") so I could put two of them next to each other and save on the scrolling.

Too bad there isn't a "Recycle Bin" for some of the selections. I never read the Sports section and rarely the Entertainment section. It would be nice to rid "My Page" of this clutter. In the print world, those sections are always first into the recycle bin at home. If stuck at Starbucks with nothing to read but the Sports section and the classifieds, I would gladly take the classifieds.

New layout is great. I was drifting over the CNN while MSNBC was stuck in the mud with their old layout. You have won me back with the layout that I can manage; some tweaks are needed ( still can't see local news?) but this is a great site!! I would like to see more science links.

BUT

It is so GREAT that you have included GUAM on the new MSNBC local news layout. Please consider moving Guam to the Pacific side of the MSNBC map!

With 8000 Marines moving to Guam in 2010-12 and about US $20 Billion (yes Billion) in active DOD or MILCON construction underway on Guam to support this relocation of Marines from Okinawa; going to be lots of news to report. Home Depot is opening a store Nov 19th. Kmart's been here for years and Ruby Tuesdays is opening in a few months. WE ARE A HOTSPOT of economic development, house construction, etc. But our landfill is full! Plus there is loads of historical rationale to support fuller represenation of Guam on the Pacific side of the MSNBC Map

First I'd like to say that overall I like the redesign. The look and feel is nice except for a few very minor issues that I won't go into. My gripe is with the speed at which pages open. I don't know what you did but the redesigned pages open painfully slow for me when at work. I'm sure its something to do with our settings not liking something about the redesign but the site is not even usable. Guess some redesigns and browser settings dont mix well. Anyway, I'll enjoy the site at home.

Not impressed. A bunch of RSS feeds dumped into a webpart. Some more graphics which are not needed. Do we need page width RSS feeds? If you want to hit a home run then allow the user to customize their page with relevant information that matters to them. Even allowing them to change color etc. This isn't old tech this has been around since ASP 2.0... you're using it now why limit what it can do. You spent a year and missed the point.

I really LOVE MSNBC, but I HATE the new site. It is so messy. There are way too many stories featured. There is no focus anymore. I used to like the one main picture and then links to smaller stories. Now there are too many pictures. I miss the old site :-(

Please, please, please...lose the masthead advertisements? Not only is it very distracting from the masthead itself, but it makes the site look cheap. Yes, I understand it brings in REVENUE...but the site is for NEWS. Don't compromise your readers experience. Overall, like the new redesign!

Hi Jennifer, I completely agree that change is necessary in order to keep up with changing technology, and taste as well as adding to variety. It's a tough challenge to completely revamping one of the biggest news websites in the world, so I applaud you.

If it is not too late, I have a few issues I would like to bring up. First, when you scroll your mouse over a section (say science and technology) a great big tab springs out listing various articles in this section. To be honest I find this more trouble than its worth. Usually I make a mistake of moving my mouse too far over while reading an article and suddenly my screen is filled with article lists. Another problem is with non optical mouse which is less accurate making me accidentally click on subsections I did not intend to.

Another issue I hope you will consider is the cluttering of main sections. I'm not a web designer, but I know clutter when I see it. The Sub sections such as gadgets are easier to read, so designing them like that would be better in my opinion. We are a visual culture, but there can be such a thing as too many pictures.

Finally I feel like the Section "Clicked" has been pushed down into an obscure subsection. I had to do a manual search to even find it! Will makes great posts every week and its a shame to not have him at least on the front page of the Science and Technology section.

I dig the new design and the fact that I can move my news "boxes" up and down. Problem is it's SLOW. I'm on a 10MBit connection and it drags - bad. You guys need to work out the bandwidth issues or your gonna lose my home page bookmark

While I find the new look more modern, it is much harder to find things and I liked having all my scores, etc. on one page w/o scrolling. Most of all, I miss being able to customize the content within a given section, such as selecting certain features or topics. I also echo previous comments that the new look seems too "open". MSNBC has been my home page pretty much since it first appeared on the 'net, sad to think I'll now be moving on.

I like to new design with one exception. I would like to be able to read the intros to the top storys (headlines?) on the top half of the page as on the old design. I like the abcnews and cbsnews sites a bit better now only because of these headlines dropping off the bottow of the page on msnbc.com.

First of all, the overall look of the site is much prettier. Good going on that!

Secondly - it seems as if the transcripts of MSNBC shows are gone. Please tell me that's not a permanent change! Particularly because...

Thirdly, I can't get the new video player to work, either on my home computer (using Mac Leopard OS) or my office computer (using Windows). All I get are the thumbnails of stories, but no player window. Which would not be THAT disturbing if I had the transcripts to turn to in times of need....

OK, after some initial adjustment(on both your and my part), all my issues with the new format have been addressed. I got my local news and weather, my stock portfolio and a quick link to my daily crossword puzzle so I'm a happy camper once again.

Now, for an off-the-wall suggestion, how about letting the user further customize the page background from a selection of colors or color sets? Despite the more colorful format, there's still an awful lot of sterile and stark white to the page.

I have had MSNBC as my homepage for many years, but I don't like the new design. First, I cannot see the performance of all the stocks in "My News" without scrolling down. Second, it seems as though I have to do a let more scrolling down to catch a glimpse of the news in all categories as compared to the previous design.

MSNBC - listen to the comments listed, I think they'll help... well, most of them. I like the re-re-design direction. It's much more focused - easy to know where to look now. The tabs are nice in the explore section, too. Wouldn't mind seeing something like that for the main article section (tabbing for the main article for different interests).
