All-nighters and innovation

Msnbc.com is in the midst of a major period of expansion, highlighted by the redesign of our site.

Last month, Newsvine.com became part of our family and we announced a new sports site in partnership with NBC Sports.com, this month we launch a major new site design, and in the coming months will be exciting developments in our video user experience.

That’s an ambitious agenda for a company of our size and if you imagine a dedicated team of programmers, editors, designers, and managers working tirelessly to make it happen, you would  be right. Despite the immense resources of msnbc.com’s parent companies, we fund ourselves and rely on a remarkably small and skilled group of employees to create the site you see. At msnbc.com, the cultural fusion of software engineers who never stopped working nights after they left college and journalists obsessed with breaking news 24/7 has created an environment where hard work is the norm. But hard work has its limits and with this redesign come some very smart behind-the-scene innovations that will vastly simplify how we create new features and future versions of the site. We will now have the ability to change almost everything you see in a fraction of the time and effort previously required.

Will that mean more rest and relaxation for the people of msnbc.com?  I doubt it. The teams here have a long list of ideas they are eager to implement, including some great suggestions from many of you. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

I don't like the new page, now I get to scroll scroll scroll - No thanks.
Wow, the wife and myself are really impressed with the new site.  Very lively and easy to read.  Congratulations to all of those responsible for the excellent changes.
Great looking re-design.  So many times site re-designs are done just for the sake of it, and it reflects.  But I think it looks great -- hat tip.
I'm really disappointed that you guys got rid of the format for the front page headline story. The large front page picture with text overlay was unique among the websites of the three major cable news outlets. It commanded attention in a very elegant, but understated way, much in the same manner a large mast head does in a newspaper. I used to love visiting the site, just to see the graphic behind the main headline. It made it seem so commanding, so important. The redesign ruins the one thing about MSNBC's website that made it unique. What a shame. MSNBC might not be my preferred new site anymore.
Please bring back the old site.  If it aint broke don't fix it.
Where is the "personalization module" mentioned in Help? I've scrolled down the front cover and it's nowhere to be seen. Without personalization such as local news, weather, stocks etc., you'll lose half your traffic rather quickly.
like the new site, but I'm just wondering what happened to nbc's newfound "green" mentality?  I fully expected to see the cool green peacock.  Maybe we'll see that soon.
I do like the new look, keep up the great work
LOOKIN' GOOD on the 19" widescreen LCD here :-)
Innovative, pleasing to the eye, very organized, easy to move news sections for your personal interest. Great design. I liked the old look but love the new one! Thank you!

I Love the new site!!!  I applaud you for taking a risk to make the site better.  I can't even imagine the amount of work it has taken to launch the new site.  Keep up the good work!!!!
nice, but there are still a few bugs.  (Don't go back to the old one!)  I am having difficulty customizing my page.  Weather?  Omitting sections?  I'll keep looking.
I can't say I'm to thrilled with the redesign. I think it traded its elegant delivery for an ugly simplicity. The banner headline and the condensed headlines made it easy to figure out what was going on in the world. Now it's just a few headlines and a lot of scrolling and page hopping. The site looks more lke CNN.com more than any thing else. I suppose its not bad but it certainly isn't better.
love it!  keep up the great work!
Great re-design of the MSNBC website.  It has always been my favorite sight for news, and now it is so much better!! Organized, easier on the eyes, and overall a great job.  Thank you!!
Your new look is great!
Where is everything?  I can't find the numerous special interest sites along the left side of your page.  Where is the large masthead?  It looks too generic to me.
Perhaps after reading Charlie Tillinghast's 11/10 post, critical readers will understand the rationale for the change.

Change is often uncomfortable, but we'll get used to it, and besides, this is nothing compared to what this country is going to have to get used to in the near future, if you catch my drift.
New look is fine, what I don't like is having
to scroll from side to side to get all the info
scrolling down, then side to side again.  Is
this my error in operation?
Love the new look!  Great job to all that contributed!
So where can I contact Newsvine.com. I am disappointed Newsvine has not received a greater welcome, mention or link here.
